|THE WHITE DOBERMAN|
The White Doberman Pinscher was developed from one White Doberman Pinscher. The first
White Doberman was a female named Sheba. Sheba was born in a litter of non white pups.
Because there was only one White Doberman, to produce more, Sheba was inbred to her
offspring. If a White Doberman is bred to a dog without some white in his background, then
all of the pups will be born any other possible color but not white. If a White Doberman
is bred to another White Doberman, all of the puppies in the litter will be white. In the
early days of the White Doberman this inbreeding continued because the early breeders
wanted pure white litters. This inbreeding led to a weakening of the White Doberman line.
While there were many good White Dobermans produced in spite of the early breeding program
some of the earlier White Dobermans were smaller, thinner and in some cases not
temperamentally strong. As time went on breeders began to recognize the problems that this
inbreeding had caused and began to outbreed (breed White Dobermans to Dobermans of other
colors and from different blood lines) the White Doberman Pinscher to restore its natural
size, temperament and vigor, and thanks to the efforts of breeders like Vicky Smith and
Betty Toskos, now there are many wonderful White Doberman Pinschers.

The White Doberman Pinscher is white due to a mutation which causes a masking of the Doberman's dark color. The term leucistic is the proper term for the genetic changes seen in the White Doberman. The White is Not devoid of all color, even the lightest White Doberman shows contrasting hues of white or cream and shows coloration in the eye (blue). As mentioned above, to get white puppies in a litter both parents must have the white recessive gene if a white Doberman is bred to a Doberman of any other color that does not have any white in it's background then none of the pups in the litter from that mating will be white. If A white is bred to a Doberman of a different color who has white in it's background then some of the pups in the litter from that mating will be white. White Dobermans bred to to White Dobermans produce litters with only white puppies.
